BVN Architecture completes the new Mater Redevelopment

BVN architectural design of the new MMH seeks to be an elegant response to the heritage of its place and setting. The design has been undertaken based on a design strategy which complements the masonry style of its surroundings. The external design concept for the MAH extension reinvigorates and provides a new image for the MAH. The design is different from that of the MAH but is integrated with the existing building.

The underlying theme for the interior design and finishes for the MMH is the ‘tree of life’. This has been derived from the existing fig trees that will line the front façade of the building. Rapid advances in health technology and methods of treatment and the increase in the standard of care expected by society will mean it is highly likely that this building will undergo a number of major refurbishments in its lifetime. Those refurbishments will require changes to the extent and location of set downs in the floor slabs for wet areas and equipment requiring the use of over floor cabling.

A testament to the success of the redevelopment project is evident from the staff at the MMH & MAH. Comments such as the creation of a more positive working environment with the enhancement of light, use of colour and acoustics have removed the clinical elements of the work environment.
