BDP helps deliver vision for City College Brighton and Hove

BDP has been appointed by City College Brighton and Hove to design a new further education college which will help consolidate the current campus over three main sites in the city. The proposals for two of the sites are at a fairly developed stage and comprise Pelham Street and Wilson Avenue, with the third site being the Falmer Community Stadium which is subject to town planning considerations at this time. The proposals for the Pelham Street campus continue the unique character of the Lanes through the site by creating a transparent college ‘hub’ in the city centre. The project seeks to enhance connections through Brighton allowing passers-by to walk through the building to a new urban park at the heart of the college and experience the buzz of college life. The building, which is terraced downwards to the south, affords spectacular sea and city views. The Wilson Avenue proposals develop a new state-of-the-art vocational college for construction, engineering and motor vehicles on its existing campus to the east of the city. A soft oversailing ‘green’ roof will ensure the building fits within its South Downs environment while glazed elevations provide stunning views across the valley and to the sea.
