Arpa Offices and 100,000 Euro House win AR Future Project award
This is a 5000m2 building complex of offices and research laboratories designed for the maximum level of sustainability. A new building surrounds a central courtyard, the hub of the complex. The roof of the building is a feature of the project with a series of chimneys that are skylights filtering light, promoting natural ventilation and reducing the need for mechanical cooling.
Unusually, Mario Cucinella Architects won the sustainability award jointly with two of their projects. The second being a project which explores the design of a 100m2 home which is low cost, high quality with zero CO2 emissions and a low environmental impact. The design integrates photovoltaic panels, solar capture during the winter months, circulation of air in the summer months and other passive environmental strategies. Construction is light and flexible prefabricated building systems with integrated services, and sliding or removable internal wall panels.
