'A timber stadium' wins AR Future Project award
This research design utilises CAD geometry and timber CNC cutting processes to produce a stadium structure with minimum material and waste. The entire structure is cross-laminated mass-timber panels, with steel cable truss roof spanning 100m with a 50% composite plywood, 50% ETFE variable skin roof. There are 6000 mobile-retractable seats in clusters and traffic can enter all around the perimeter. The judges were pleased, given the current interest in stadium design and low energy materials for building, to see the imagination shown in this prototype for an all-timber stadium structure with an ETFE roof. They hoped to see some built in the near future.
