Castleford Bridge architects win RIBA competition for Uttoxeter masterplan
McDowell + Benedetti, the architect firm responsible for the Castleford Bridge has won the competition to masterplan the redevelopment of JCB’s
Heavy Products site in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, UK. Six architectural practices were initially invited to submit proposals for a site in the town centre as part of a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) invited design competition.
The relocation of the Heavy Products business to a new, larger and more accessible £40 million
plant next to the JCB World Parts Centre on the outskirts of Uttoxeter has presented the
opportunity to redevelop this important town centre site and contribute to the wider renaissance
of Uttoxeter.
The competition brief requested proposals for a masterplan that would reintegrate the 22 acre
site into the Town Centre, providing a new civic park, 257 homes, a health complex, 9,200 sqm
of commercial space and a 12 bay petrol filling station.
JCB Chairman, Sir Anthony Bamford said: “The quality of the entrants was extremely high and
the decision to select a winner was difficult but I believe the design masterplan which McDowell
+ Benedetti have conceived will give the town of Uttoxeter a development to be proud of. ”
