Lancaster regeneration boosted as Hamiltons scheme gets thumbs up
Hamiltons Architects have confirmed that outline planning permission has been granted for their development design at Lawson’s Quay East in Lancaster, England. The scheme includes a hotel, offices, and retail over an area of approximately 28 000 sq m. Lawson's Quay East represents the first stage of development of the wider Kingsway regeneration brief, the largest undeveloped site on the edge of Lancaster city centre.
Hamiltons worked with local Lancaster architects Harrison Pitt to submit the planning application. Local developer Lancaster Property Network (LPN) is investing heavily in the scheme, and worked hard with Hamiltons and Harrison Pitt to ensure the proposal matched the aspirations and needs of the city and its people.
The planning process included extensive consultation with members of local interest groups and the public to ensure the plans incorporated their views. The Design and Access Statement was praised by the north west design review panel ‘Places Matter!’ for the quality of the analysis undertaken, and the application was supported by the planning authority at committee.
As the development progresses, the masterplan will be centered on a series of open spaces that link the Lancaster Canal to the River Lune. As part of the proposals, LPN intends to create new public spaces and regenerate the existing riverside park, to become an integral part of the community and heal the long neglected gap in Lancaster’s urban fabric.
