Ski jump completes in time for traditional competition

The new Olympic ski jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany has been officially opened. Designed by German architects terrain: loenhart&mayr the design was inspired by the local topography of mount Gudiberg with the connecting lines of the jump reflecting the curved lines of the foothills of the mountains. Jutting out from the base of the mountain range, the form represents that of a jutting shard of ice, already nicknamed the ‘Olympic Cantilever’ by athletes and mimicking the challenge with gravity encountered in ski jumping.

The facility opened in time for the traditional New Year ski jump competition which has been hosted on this site for 55 years.
