Urban Strategies Inc design new development east of Canary Wharf in London
The regeneration of Silvertown Quays, the last large site in the Royal Docks district of London, continues the effort to bring significant new development east of Canary Wharf and the Millennium Dome. Urban Strategies developed a vision and master plan for the 60-acre site that won an international design competition hosted by the London Development Agency. The objective is to create a sustainable community that capitalizes on recent investments in nearby regional transportation and open space facilities, employs the best environmental practices and provides jobs for the community. The firm is now leading a team of consultants charged with implementing this £1.5 billion project. Silvertown Quays will act as an active town centre for the Royal Docks and include a National Aquarium designed by Terry Farrell. The network of streets and open spaces responds to the unique dockside location and provides the framework for a range of commercial (40,000 m2) and residential (5,000 units) buildings and water-based recreational facilities.
