The design for Gates Circle Condominium building in Buffalo is unveiled 

Uniland Development Company assembled an award winning architectural team to design and site the residential building. Toronto’s Diamond + Schmitt Architects partnered with Buffalo’s Hamilton Houston Lownie Architects to design the building, with internationally renowned du Toit Allsopp Hiller in the role of landscape architect. The 22-storey residential tower combines natural materials and green concepts with 21st century design. Design inspiration came from many references within the Buffalo cityscape. From Gates Circle, the primary view of the proposed building lobby is highlighted by a two-storey, living bio-wall. Located in the Garden Room, the bio-filter is composed of plants which improve air quality and create a natural source of fresh indoor air. Other green-friendly features include a growing “green roof” over the entrance, increased green space on the property and the use of natural materials in drive areas that will reduce ground heat effect. The slender tower features a two-storey limestone base which creates a warm and tactile grade level podium for the site. Vertical openings set into the limestone are scaled to the larger context, inviting the landscape to flow into and through the building. The proposed building footprint is nearly half the size of the existing Park Lane Restaurant and incorporates landscaped features that will replace an asphalt parking lot. In addition, an ivy covered arbor screen will minimize an entrance to underground parking. This is the first new high-rise structure in the Delaware District in more than 50 years.
