Tokyo house sets an example of sophisticated seclusion

The site is located in the heart of Tokyo, a flag shaped site within a crowded residential district. What one would suspect a negative site form, the client took as a positive, stating “rather than a standard site, this one provides reasonable distance from the surroundings, we feel we would be able to create a small universe for ourselves".

A straight long narrow approach, the entrance gives dramatic depth to the building and the façade is emphasised, giving it character. Beyond the entrance a courtyard, what could be called the centre of this architectural project. This space can be seen from all parts of the building; the patio obstructs all parts of the chaotic external environment and acquires its own space. This space could be said to be the most precious space in the city.
