Make Architects get green light for City Park Gate project
The proposals will extend Birmingham’s city core through to City Park and become Eastside’s gateway to the city centre. The 1 million sq. ft. development is planned to include a balanced mix of office and residential accommodation, potential hotel facilities, food and other retail outlets, and cafes, bars and restaurants to produce a district which is active 24/7.
The planned buildings vary in height culminating in a tall building aligned with City Park’s primary axis. The open spaces of the adjacent City Park will provide the development with an excellent aspect and an amenity for future residents offering an oasis in the midst of city centre living.
The success of City Park Gate will be measured by its ability to extend the city’s urban fabric through a series of well-connected streets and public places that forge new links with City Park. The design framework has been developed to balance longevity with resilience. It will create a series of new public places integrated with architecture and landscaping of the highest quality.
