Cannon Design provide architectural expertise to University Medical Centre
The 65,000 sq ft pavilion houses the Long Island Cancer Center, which includes a breast care center, outpatient medical and surgical oncology, outpatient pediatric oncology, a state-of-the-art imaging center and pain management services. Program components include medical and administrative offices, training areas, patient support center, and café. To achieve aesthetic consistency with the campus’s current major modernization initiative, the pavilion is designed to complement the other buildings on the site, incorporating key design elements from the hospital’s major modernization initiative and linking inpatient and outpatient campuses. With a flexible clinical core area wrapped in a glass-and-metal “necklace” of public spaces, the pavilion also acknowledges the qualitative differences between spaces dedicated to treatment and those to preventative screening, by providing two major independent entrances linked by a shared conduit of public space.
