Second Al Faisaliah Tower likely to soar over Riyadh
It is understood that the Saudi Arabian royal family have appointed Foster + Partners to carry out the designs of another tower in the capital of Saudi Arabia.
This would be the second commission by the family and the Al Faisaliah Group for Lord Norman
Foster who completed the Al Faisaliah Tower One with Buro Happold in May 2000. The existing $320 million high rise tower comprises the centrepiece office tower, the 5-star Al Faisaliah hotel, a banqueting and conference centre, shopping mall and luxury apartments. The tower soars above the City, and can be seen from any point on the horizon; the “sequel tower” is expected to be located in the immediate vicinity.
Eddie Pugh, Buro Happold partner and project director who has overseen the construction phase of the first Al Faisaliah Tower on behalf of the Foster/Buro Happold Joint Venture commented on the completed tower: “This landmark project is remarkable in more ways than one. Apart from breaking records at 267m for the tallest building in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , the project has drawn worldwide attention for its innovative design and precision crafted engineering.”
Foster + Partners are currently issuing no comments on the project but designs are expected to be unveiled soon with the confirmed project team, amongst which Buro Happold is anticipated to be appointed for structural, building services and civil engineering.
