Beautiful!

Reminds me of the Ise Shrine in Japan.

Using simple materials to great effect

The location of the villa on the lushly planted plot was determined by both the magnificent beech trees and Douglas firs and the layout of the shady garden. To ensure a maximum of sunlight and privacy in the garden, the building was situated along the road. The elongated volume acts as a screen between the sunny part of the garden and the road.

The simple overall shape of the house is outlined by the long, corrugated roof, below which an expanse of space has been created. On the side of the road the facade has been kept closed, clad with timber aging to a beautiful silvery sheen. On the garden side mezzanines and glass fronts transform the building’s mass into a light and airy volume.
