Avanti Architects design £12m health centre
Barrhead Health and Social Care Centre in Barrhead has been granted planning approval. The new health centre will be located on Main Street in Barrhead, 8 miles south of Glasgow, and will be the key component of a master plan for the regeneration of the town centre.
London based Avanti Architects were appointed to design a building that under one roof would house three GP practices, as well as Primary Care and Social Services provision including dental, physiotherapy, Community Nursing teams and day care support for the elderly.
The new building is planned around a central top-lit three storey atrium which contains reception and waiting areas and a health information point and has views to the north over the Levern. All patient access areas are located on the ground and first floor, with the second floor housing staff offices and a service area on the lower ground floor.
As experienced designers of healthcare buildings, Avanti Architects organise rooms and spaces in a clear and straightforward manner, dealing with the issues of privacy and security by the separation of public and staff areas. They use natural light wherever possible to guide people around the building and provide pleasant, relaxing environments for both patients and staff.
The new health complex will be funded by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the Scottish Government and East Renfrewshire Council.
