Los Angeles County Museum of Art unveils new exhibition pavilion
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) unveiled today a new Renzo Piano-designed building, slated to open in 2010, that will serve as an exhibition pavilion for the Museum’s extensive campus which is currently undergoing a dramatic transformation by Piano.
The Pavilion, which is to be named for Lynda and Stewart Resnick, who donated $45 million for its construction, will be a single storey glass and stone enclosed structure. The new building is intended to house special exhibitions, freeing up gallery space for LACMA’s extensive permanent collection.
The pavilion’s exterior will be glass and travertine and its interior galleries will be a flexible open plan that can accommodate multiple exhibitions at once as well as large scale works of art.
