OFIS ARHITEKTI complete apartment block with convoluted facade
The jutting facade of the recently completed Lace apartment block is constructed by the order of form following function. In Nova Gorica, where these apartments stand, temperatures are the hottest in Slovenia during the summer but ferocious winds endure throughout the winter. The facade’s many shapes - projecting roofs, pergolas, apartment dividing walls, terraces and balconies with loggias – therefore, protect external spaces and offer privacy to inhabitants whilst encouraging interaction with the outside world. This protection also provides sustainable benefits sheltering the inside from the extreme temperatures and reducing energy costs.
Five floors of housing incorporate 70 two, two and a half, or three-bed apartments while two underground floors provide parking space. Project architects were: Rok Oman; Spela Videcnik; Nejc Batistic; Martina Lipicer; Andrej Gregoric and Katja Aljaz. Niki May Young News Editor
