Magnusson Architects aim for LEED Silver with affordable housing in Greenburgh
The design includes a 3 storey, 28 unit multi-family dwelling, as well as a cellar, community room, laundry facility, green roof and parking.
The proposed massing of the building is articulated in a series of vertical volumes and a combination of rainscreen façade materials to break the horizontality of the 3 storey design. The design maximizes the amount of daylight provided to the apartments with generous glazing. The east and west exposures are controlled by sun shade elements such as balconies, movable wood shutters and awnings. The building will be generously landscaped with native trees and plants creating natural buffers along all the property lines and providing shade control to the building and parking areas.
Due for completion in 2010 the building will have green/high-performance features with smart building technology and will apply for the NYSERDA Muliti-Family Performance Program green affordable housing component in order to meet the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria. The project will also pursue a minimum LEED® for Homes Silver certification.
