Dam & Partners Architecten designs Netherland's high builing in Rotterdam

On the ‘Kop van Zuid’ the former dockland area in Rotterdam the official start took place of the construction works for the Maas Tower, designed by Dam & Partners Architecten (Amsterdam). With its height of 165 meters it will tower above all other high-rise buildings in The Netherlands. The location is unique: literally in the river Maas, where the Erasmus Bridge connects to the left bank, on a public transport interchange and at the intersection of three roads. And surrounded by other high-rise buildings designed by Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas, Alvaro Siza and Mecanoo. As an office building for a major international accounting firm the building marks the transition from a port city to a urban center of world trade and services. The base of the building is made of anthracite-coloured natural stone with two floors high windows to connect the entrance lobby with outside. On the water, next to the foot of the building, a crystal-like glass space houses all reception rooms. Going up, the aluminum façade changes color from anthracite at the base to silvery white at the top. The street side is monochrome anthracite. The high central lobby offers a view of all destinations inside the building. In the middle, around the core, a ramp soars to the parking garage above. The board room on the 45th floor offers a panoramic view of city, port and the surroundings of Rotterdam. At night, the highest point of the elevator structure is illuminated and during the day it reflects the clouds.
