A shadow of its formal glory much of Detroit now lies in ruins 

Detroit was once a place of stunning pre-depression architecture with ornamental flourishing commonplace and thriving industrial centres. Now the buildings lie vacant and crumbling awaiting intervention on a massive scale or, sadly, demolition.
