Emergency Architects Australia's (EAA) recently opened branch in Brisbane, begins helping the Soloman islands, amongst others.

Emergency Architects Australia is a non profit voluntary organization which assists with emergency relief and reconstruction programs in the developing countries within the Asia Pacific Region. The recently formed Brisbane branch of EAA has current relief projects (schools and houses reconstruction) in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, with prospective projects in Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand. Members assist in giving their time (pro-bono) towards collaborative design workshops, fundraising for relief efforts, project coordination in the field, and administration duties such as volunteer coordination. Due to their proximity to the Asia Pacific region, and Brisbane's subtropical location, EAA's Brisbane volunteers have a wealth of experience in tropical architectural design solutions relevant to the relief activities of EAA in the region. One of the major advantages of architects being involved in relief efforts lies in their `bigger picture' view of relief activities; by not only taking into account technical solutions to problems, but also the cultural and social implications of those solutions, which can be missed during devastating events.
