Elaborate wooden facade enshrouds private residence in Western Austria
This exquisite private residence near a lake in Western Austria is the work of Vienna-based Architekt Alexander Diem. The emerging design studio worked in collaboration with two artists - Nick Oberthaler and Plamen Dejanoff - to craft a sublime residential property that blends elements of art and architecture.
The residents enter their home through a grand main door designed by Dejanoff which references the heavy doors of ageing country houses. Once inside, it becomes clear that each area of the residence has been designed as part of a hierarchy with the most attention given to the areas where residents will spend the most time.
As such, the primary living spaces enjoy substantial ceiling heights of up to 5.6m and have been given priority over other areas in terms of space and layout. Conversely, the stairways are considered to be ‘subordinate areas’ and feature reduced cei
