Queen opens £800m transport hub for UK
This week saw the opening of the long awaited Eurostar terminus at St Pancras station in London. The new station will replace the original at Waterloo and sit at the end of the new high speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL). The entire project was built by London & Continental Railways (LCR) and came in on time – proving that huge contracts can be delivered on time and in budget. The station was officially opened by the Queen at a celebration marking the completion of one of Britain's largest construction projects costing a total of £5.2bn and taking 10 years. The celebrations included an orchestra, singers and giant screens. The original William Barlow shed was transformed into a theatre to entertain the 1,000 guests.
