Zaha's Chinese Opera
Guangzhou Opera House
Zaha Hadid, who was deprived of her chance to build the Cardiff Opera House in 1994 is now designing this exciting complex for the city of Guangzhou in southern China. Located next to the Pearl River, the organic ‘boulder’ form is apparently inspired by river pebbles. The sculptural building will be set in an adjunct to the Haixinsha Tourist Park against the dramatic backdrop of the Zhujiang new-town skyline .....more
Spinnaker Tower complete Portsmouth’s 170m Spinnaker Tower has opened this week. Planned as one the UK’s Millennium projects, the construction has been dogged by delays and cost over-runs. Sited adjacent to the historic port, it was designed by HGP Architects to resemble a ship’s sail .....more
