RESIDENTIAL: In the attic of emblematic building of 20th centrury Madrid, this new concept ofliving space has been designed by architect Hector Ruiz-Valazquez.

"The conquest of the square meter has become one of the major concerns of our times. The unaffordable prices and the shortage of living areas in the city have called for a redefinition of the spaces we live in."


RESIDENTIAL: Part of a program in Rotterdam to revitalise disadvantaged neighbourhoods, this house was sold to a private individual with the proviso that the property would be restored within a specified period and that it would be transformed into one home.

The renovation of the Rotterdam 'metier house' was an experiment with spectacular results undertaken by Studio Rolf in partnership with Architects Zecc.

TABLES: Jason Phillips' Holey console table is a study of matte vs glossy finishes. The form resembles liquid metal, and the centre compartment allows for the safekeeping of 'precious items'.

Holey is a console table that employs both a resolved feeling and a separation of the ovular center and the remaining bulk. The center is a brushed metal while the rest is chromed.

RESIDENTIAL: Designed by i29 interior architects based in the Netherlands, this residence at the Singel, Amsterdam (NL) exists from one open space where several functions have been put into freestanding objects. The kitchen and wardrobe are placed near the entrance and combined into one single space.

CHAIRS: Nina is a 26-year-old designer based in Copenhagen. Nest Chair is her newest piece of work, influenced by the coming season, nature and of course... a bird's nest. Bruun's idea was to create 'graphical chaos which still felt like a unified whole'.

HOTELS: Design HotelsTM announces its new member in Laos: the Alila Luang Prabang which opened on 1 October 2010. The all-suite resort is located in the UNESCO World Heritage town Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos. Architect Bunnag Duangrit created a contemporary hotel, while conserving the site's architectural heritage.

PRODUCTS: MANTIS are reduced to the main functions of floor and desk lamps with a emotional nature of an object. A 300mm long energy-saving power LED strip is integrated in the wood profile and provides a neutral white light. An aluminium tube is inserted through the wooden construction so the lights can rotate continuously and adjust in height easily. The result is a delicate balance of lightness, purist design and playful emotion.

A warm welcome to the first issue of INSIDE, a monthly roundup of what's smart and stylish in the world of interiors and design. In pulling together the very best projects and products from around the world, we have compiled not only an invaluable resource for architects, but also a platform for young designers to showcase their work.

Our first featured designer is Nina Brunn, a 26-year-old designer from Copenhagen who has recently designed two unique chairs while studying for her Masters in Furniture at the Danish School of Design. Take a look at her Snapshot responses and examples of her work including Nest and Fold, both of which were showcased at Stockholm Furniture Fair.

Also this month we're delighted to announce the launch of the WAN AWARDS Interiors + Design Sector, organised by World Architecture News who have been championing outstanding architecture for over five years, these coveted awards are judged by a distinguished panel of internationally acclaimed designers, architects, clients, products designers and engineers. The closing date for entries is 15th December 2010 and all the short listed projects will be featured on the Interiors + Design site.
