On 13th October, the 2010 Laureates will attend the formal Awards Ceremony in Tokyo presided over by the Japan Art Association’s Honorary Patron, HIH Prince Hitachi. Each artist receives an honorarium of 15 million yen (c. £115,000), a diploma and a medal.

The Awards, made by the Japan Art Association, are regarded by many as being the art world’s equivalent of the Nobel Prizes and are made in the categories of Painting, Sculpture, Architecture, Music and Theatre/Film. Artists are recognised for the impact they have had internationally on their particular field.
