Architecture in Havana, Cuba: Historical Perspectives and Future Predictions

Description The AIANY Global Dialogues Committee has organized a Cuban Architecture Symposium to reflect on their recent trip to Havana, Cuba in November 2009. Fundacion Amistad, under a visa for Professional Research, brought nine members of the AIANY to Havana. The program included exchanges with local architects and the city planners of Old Havana to discuss past, present and future projects.

The presenters are: Judith DiMaio, AIA,dDean, School of Architecture & Design at New York Institute of Technology; Pedro Castillo, principal, Pedro Castillo Architects; Gerard F. Vasisko, AIA, associate principal, Perkins + Will; and Jeremy Edmunds, Associate AIA, project manager and sustainability advisor. Honorable guests include Ricardo Porro, Nicolas Quintana, Hervin Rommey and Belmont Freeman.

Noushin Ehsan AIA, president of 2nd Opinion Design will moderate and Margaret Castillo, AIA, principal, Helpern Architects will give opening remarks.

Time: 5:30- 7:30p.m.
Where: At The Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place, between Bleecker and West 3rd streets.
