On 7 – 9 August 2009, the 11th edition of this annual event dedicated to architectural
culture and research, that bears the name of Alvar Aalto, will take place in the university
city of Jyväskylä, Finland, where several of his major works and the museum dedicated
to him are located. Around the theme EDGE: Paracentric Architecture, architects from
Africa, Asia, Finland, and Latin America will present their research, which, though carried
out independently in different parts of the world, pursues the same ecological,
communitarian, social and cultural objectives that defy market dictates. A discussion
forum on architects' responsibilities in the evolution of nature and society will also be held.
Louise Cox will represent the UIA at this seminar.
