Conran and Partners’ Paul Zara and Nathan Zaver will tell the story of the architecture and design practice’s involvement in breathing new life into Saltdean Lido at a special event in Brighton this June. ‘Saving Saltdean Lido’ is a free event which has been organised by the Design Brighton group.
Paul and Nathan, from Conran’s Brighton office, will talk about their years of support for the campaign to return the Lido to its former glory and the plans they are currently drawing up for its future, working with the Community Interest Company now in charge of the building.
Saltdean is the UK’s only Grade II*(star) listed lido and one of only three remaining at the seaside. In addition to the outdoor pool, the site includes an iconic modernist building with enormous potential. Saltdean Lido CIC was granted a 60-year lease of the property last December from Brighton and Hove Council with a clear remit: to restore, renovate and modernise the pool and its building which has been on English Heritage’s 'At Risk Register' since October 2011.
The talk will take place at The Old Market on Thursday June 19. Doors open at 6pm and the event starts at 6.30pm (and will be finished in good time for the England –v- Uruguay World Cup fixture!).
Earlier this year Conran and Partners was appointed as lead consultant in the renovation of the historic Lido.
