Gordon Carey was born in Leeds in 1951 and emigrated, with his family, to Australia in the early 1960’s. He returned to the UK in 1966 and was educated at Leeds Modern Grammar School, followed by Leeds School of Architecture. In the 1970’s Gordon worked as an architect in Sydney, Australia, on a wide variety of projects including residential and Inner City developments.
After working in several Practices in the UK, on a wide variety of projects, Gordon formed the Practice of careyjones with Chris Jones in 1987, having worked together for over 15 years. careyjones architects has expanded steadily to become one of the largest practices in the UK with studios in London, Leeds, Manchester and New York. Gordon is a strong supporter of urban renaissance and inner city redevelopment and is a member of the Common Purpose, Civic Trust and the founding member of the Leeds Chamber of Commerce Property Forum.
Additionally to his role as Senior Vice Chairman of BURA, Gordon is the Chairman of careyjones architects and former President of the British Council for Offices.
