Clive Dutton OBE is Executive Director for Regeneration, Planning and Property, London Borough of Newham; host Borough to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The development platform in this part of East London is a third of the size of Manhattan Island and is the Mayor of London’s regeneration priority for the foreseeable future. Prior to this he was Director of Planning and Regeneration at Birmingham City Council from 2005 to 2009 and directed a dramatic regeneration programme within the city, unprecedented in its recent history, and before this he was Director of Regeneration at JJ Gallagher Limited and Head of regeneration for four local authorities. He has been Chief Executive of Tipton City Challenge and General Manager of the Black Country Urban Development Corporation. In addition he worked for Government on the Urban Task Force, Urban White Paper and the Oldham Independent Review, following the civil disturbances in 2001, and was Chairman of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Annual Sustainable Communities Award and a non-executive director of the British Urban Regeneration Association for three years in the early 1990s. He has been a member of the BURA Best Practice Committee since its inception, and was awarded the OBE in 1998 for services to urban regeneration.
