Roger Hawkins formed Hawkins\Brown with Russell Brown in 1988. Roger’s work in the education sector is extensive. Hawkins\Brown is currently working on new build student accommodation at the Royal Veterinary College in Hatfield. At Kingston University, Hawkins\Brown is designing 2 masterplans for an urban and suburban campus and have recently completed the extension of the Microbiology, Pharmacy and Physics Departments. Hawkins\Brown is also designing a new Business School, Learning Resource Centre for Science and an Indoor Sports Centre.

Hawkins\Brown were appointed for the redevelopment of both campuses at Chichester College and are currently preparing masterplans for Aston University, the University of Westminster Harrow campus and the University of Salford.

Other Higher Education projects include the recently completed and award-winning Jarman Building School of Arts for the University of Kent in Canterbury and the award-winning Biochemistry building at Oxford - the practice’s largest education commission to date which is in excess of £75m in two phases; New Avenue Campus for Southampton University; Gosta Green Campus for Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, University of Central England; The Ascot Campus for Imperial College; a new Social Science Research Centre at the University of Essex, Colchester; a general purpose teaching block for Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge; a new Business School for the University of Portsmouth and a new Student Centre, also for the University of Portsmouth, which received a Civic Trust award in 2003.

As CABE Enabler for Education and Arts projects, Roger has advised on a programme of new schools and community learning facilities in Worksop and Retford and an Arts Centre in Manchester.

Roger was Director in charge of the Wysing Arts Centre providing open access artists’ studios and workshops in Bourn, near Cambridge and which received a 2008 RIBA Award and the New Art Exchange, Nottingham - a landmark building housing exhibition galleries, workshop spaces, (resident artist studio and community/education studio), a library, café and a performing arts rehearsal base.

Prior to forming Hawkins\Brown, Roger worked in the USA from 1981-1982 and at Rock Townsend from 1984-1988 where he developed a special interest in the rehabilitation and re-use of existing buildings.
