Dan Phillips (FRSA, MSt (cantab) BEng (acgi)) is group director of sustainability at Buro Happold. He trained as a mechanical engineer at
Imperial College, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has a Masters
degree in interdisciplinary design for the built environment from Cambridge
University. He started his career at Ford Motor Company followed by 8
years at Arup's in London and Africa. His professional passion is innovation
and sustainable development and he believes that we will achieve this
through constantly improving the relationship people have with our built
and natural environment, the systems and tools we use to operate our
buildings, cities and organisations and the quality of the built environment
itself. Previously he ran a design and innovation company called the SEA,
and was also the creative director at Battle McCarthy Engineers. He is a
creative communicator and thinker having lectured in environmental design
and published a book on Eco-friendly homes for Harper Collins.
