Exhibition Director for BAU
Mirko Arend has been in charge of the New Business Development and Market Research business areas at Messe München GmbH since 2007. His connections with building go back a long way - both his father and grandfather were master masons, and the young Mirko grew up in the family-owned business in Idar-Oberstein. Taking over as Exhibition Director of BAU is like coming home for Mirko Arend.
In the 1990s Arend studied business management with a focus on marketing and statistics, at the University of Trier. His career started in 1995 at market researchers Gesellschaft für Konsum-, Markt- und Absatzforschung (GfK) in Nuremberg, where he worked as a project leader and senior consultant. At GfK his main area of activity was in drawing up reports on sales and sales potential in the international B2B area. Between 2001 and 2005 Arend was in the national and international express parcels business, at DHL Express, in their bases at both Langen and Bonn, as Head of Business Planning and Market Research. Then followed a spell as Head of Sales Planning and Market Research at the sales promotion agency Pact in Munich, before he moved to Messe München in 2005, first as Head of the Market Research Department, and then in 2007 taking over also the New Business Development area.
As well as his role as Exhibition Director for BAU Mirko Arend will in future, as Exhibition Group Director of Business Unit IV at Messe München, also be responsible for the Building Centre in Poing.
