Brazilian, NYC firms win Zumtobel awards

Aedes of Berlin has announced the winners of the 2010 Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity in the Built Environment, carrying a prize fund of €140,000.

In the built environment category, the jury selected Brazilian architecture studio Triptyque for their ecologically and architecturally pioneering office building and gallery "HARMONIA 57." The award for the research and initiative category was given to nonprofit design group Terreform ONE of New York for their research project "New York City Resource & Mobility, a visionary master plan that maps out a sustainable future for New York City. An additional four commendations were awarded in each category. The prizewinners were selected from 20 projects in each category, recommended to the jury by a team of international experts commissioned in conjunction with Aedes.

Andreas Ludwig, CEO Zumtobel Group, Dornbirn, Austria
Enrique Norten, architect / TEN Arquitectos, Mexico City and New York City
Anna Tibaijuka, General and Executive Director / UN Habitat, Nairobi
The award ceremony will take place in Bregenz on 9 September.
