Just one month after its opening the observation deck at the Burj Khalifa has been forced to close, reportedly due to an electrical fault. Having opened on 6 January this year, At the Top on level 124 of the 164 storied Burj Khalifa was celebrated as the world's highest outdoor observation deck.
A double decker elevator is used to take up to 28 people at a time to the deck at 10 m per second. But Gulf News has reported that the deck is now closed to visitors while 'maintenance and upgrade' works are carried out, with no definite reopening schedule. "Technical issues with the power supply are being worked on by the main and sub-contractors and the public will be informed upon completion," the news service quotes a spokesperson for the Burj Khalifa. Adult tickets bought in advance of the experience cost approx 20€ and the spokesperson added that visitors are being offered the chance to either rebook or receive a refund.
