RMJM Hong Kong awarded Delhi Games contract

The Hong Kong studio of international architectural company RMJM has been awarded a key contract at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.

RMJM, which recently launched a specialist studio in Hong Kong focusing on the design of sporting venues, has been awarded the contract to be the expert planning consultants for six key Commonwealth Games venues for the Delhi Games. The company will be overseeing the work on the Athletes Village, International Broadcast Centre, Main Press Centre, International Airport, Uniform and Accreditation Centre and the Main Logistics Centre.

RMJM is the only international company to have been commissioned to undertake such work on the Delhi Games.

With a team based in Delhi and Hong Kong, dedicated sports design experts are providing assessments and planning advice to all of the venues and coordinating all of the temporary and permanent building requirements.

The ‘RMJM Sports’ studio, which is undertaking the work, is led by recently appointed John Pauline who is one of the world’s most experienced designers of sporting venues, having worked on projects at four Olympic Games. Although best known for being a key designer of the 2008 Olympic National Aquatic Centre (known as the Watercube) at the Beijing Olympics, he has worked on projects and in an advisory capacity at the Olympics in Beijing, Sydney, Athens and London. For the year prior to joining RMJM three months ago, he worked as a design architect on the Olympic Handball Venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games, which is now under construction.
