New concert hall for London

Modern new concert hall in London on the horizon The Internationally renowned English conductor and leader of the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle has called for a new world-class concert hall in London. In response, George Osborne is supporting moves by London Mayor, Boris Johnson, to construct a new venue where the country’s greatest musicians can perform. The City of London is now scouting out possible sites. Mr Osborne said that a concert hall could give: “significant artistic, educational and economic benefits” to London, while Mr Johnson added that it would confirm London’s reputation as a “world city for culture”. It has been agreed that the venue would be shared with other great orchestras in the country, such as the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. The concert hall would have cutting-edge digital and educational facilities and would have to complement rather than compete with existing facilities. After meeting with Sir Simon Rattle Mr Osborne was convinced of the significant artistic, educational and economic benefits that a modern, new concert hall would bring, not just to London, but to the whole country.
