CTBUH appoint new Chair

The Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat have appointed a new Chair following a rigorous nomination and review process. The distinguished Korean Professor Sang Dae Kim will take over the position of Chair from David Scott in October and will take up the position of Vice Chair until then.

Kim holds a Chair in Architecture at the University of Korea, Seoul and is the Chair of the Korean Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat – a chapter of the CTBUH established in 2008. Kim has previously served the CTBUH in the roles of an Advisory / Steering Group member, Country Representative for Korea, and Chair of the CTBUH 2004 Seoul Conference: “Tall Buildings in Historical Cities – Culture & Technology for Sustainable Cities”.

Professor Kim’s nomination within a field of imminently distinguished candidates for the position of CTBUH Chair stood out for its vision to push the agendas of the Council internationally, and in the Asian region specifically. Professor Kim has plans to establish more productive dialogues with tall building colleagues in China and Japan, as well as Korea and East Asia generally. He also intends to forge stronger links with the international academic-research community, strengthening recent CTBUH moves in this direction.

Professor Kim’s plan for his 2-year Chair tenure will be finalized in the coming weeks.
