New Covent Garden Market scheme submitted for planning

A redevelopment project for the largest fruit and vegetable market in the UK has been submitted for planning. New Covent Garden Market has been situated at this particular site in the Nine Elms redevelopment area for the past 40 years and has an 800-year history in London.

The new plans by Vinci St Modwen and Covent Garden Market Authority will release 20 acres of surplus land which will be transformed with 3,000 new homes, 135,000 sq ft of office space and 100,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and community facilities. Should planning be achieved for this project, development works are due to commence in 2015.
