Maggie's Centres: A Blueprint for Cancer Care opens today in New York

Maggie's Centres: A Blueprint for Cancer Care is an exhibition at the New York School of Interior Design that illustrates how architecture, interiors, and landscape design work together to create an environment of help and healing for cancer patients and their families.

Designed by world-famous architects such as Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, Steven Holl, and Zaha Hadid, Maggie's Centres are designed to be warm, welcoming places that provide practical, emotional, and social support. Conceived by the late Maggie Keswick Jencks, along with her husband Charles Jencks as a direct response to her own experience with cancer, the first centre opened in 1996 and has since has grown to 17 centres across the United Kingdom and beyond, with many more to follow.

Exhibition will include:

• Photographs of 5 Maggie's centres
• Videos of patient stories and the design process
• Patient portrait photographs by Mary McCartney (Paul McCartney’s daughter)
• Architectural models
• Original sketches by Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas and Steven Holl
• Furniture provided by Vitra to recreate the experience of a Maggie’s
