Calgary New Central Library to be designed by Snohetta and DIALOG

Snohetta and DIALOG have been announced as the winners of an international competition to design a new home for the Calgary New Central Library to meet increasing demand. Built in stages in the 1960s and 1970s, the existing library was designed for a population of 400,000 however, according to Census figures in 2011, this figure has now increased to over 1 million.

As a result, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) hosted a competition to find a design team to create a venue 66% larger than the existing facility. The design team is comprised of Snohetta and DIALOG, with MHPM as Project Managers and Stuart Olson Dominion Construction.

“We’re ready and incredibly excited to get going,” said Craig Dykers, Founding Partner, Snohetta, New York. “With our local partner, DIALOG, we bring a unique set of local, national and international experiences which will guide our thinking for Calgary’s New Central Library.”
