Best Retrofit Award for AECOM's Great Sutton Street Data Centre

Volta Data Centres, the specialist provider of data centres to the financial, media and content industries, has been awarded the Best Retrofit Award at the 2013 International Data Centre and Cloud Awards. Designed by AECOM and delivered by their multi-disciplinary industrial team, Volta’s refurbished Great Sutton Street Data Centre in London offers a highly resilient, secure and flexible IT environment, benefitting from a diverse 33kV power supply as well ultra-low latency connectivity for Volta’s customers in the capital and beyond.

Over a 12 month period 270,000 man hours have completely stripped and re-fitted the former Reuters data centre, while AECOM’s team have designed and delivered a variety of structural, architectural, geotechnical and infrastructure services, as well as CDM coordination during the renovation of the 91,000 sq ft facility.

Julian King, Commercial Director of Volta Data Centres said: “We are delighted that AECOM have won the Best Retrofit Award this year and are pleased that they have received recognition for what is now a fully operational, highly resilient and connected facility. The building presented significant challenges, such as the installation of two 10MW 33kV transformers and the quality of the finished product is a testament to the whole team.”
