Free App from Atkins instantly determines flood risk at any location in the United States

Flooding across the United States causes annual losses of more than $2.9bn with residential communities often hit with little or no warning. Multidisciplinary firm Atkins has now released a free App for smartphones and tablets which enables users to assess the flood risk of any given area in the United States. FloodMap™ Mobile has already had more than 4,000 downloads and is available now via the Apple App Store, Android App Store and Windows Phone Store.

This free tool not only supplies an instant assessment of flood risk to the user but can connect them to local insurance agents and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Engineers, community officials and local bodies can use FloodMap™ Mobile to access information about map numbers, quads, gages and floodplains while real estate agents, property developers and potential home buyers may use the tool to determine the flood risk and associated insurance costs for a certain location.

Josh Price, GISP, CFM, Senior Project Manager at Atkins, commented: “FloodMap™ Mobile places critical decision-making information into the hands of those with the power to make changes - you and me. We’re proud to now offer this useful App to the public at no cost.” More information about FloodMap™ Mobile can be found here.
