Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium roof complete

The roof of the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain has been completed as part of an immense scheme by BAM International. Once completed in late 2013, the 45,000 sq m stadium will be joined by a 6-storey commercial building, a sports complex, and widescale infrastructure works including roads, car parking, playing fields and landscaping.

One of the most impressive parts of the 25,000-seat stadium is the arching roof structure, which has now received its final trestle. The unique, complex geometry of the steel roof comprising 38 metres long steel trusses (each weighing 25 tonnes) covered with a PVC tensile membrane creates a shade over the pitch and seating terraces to protect football players and visitors from direct sunlight.
