40,000 sq m district planned for Denmark by Henning Larsen Architects, Danica Pension, COWI and Alectia

Henning Larsen Architects, Danica Pension, COWI and Alectia are developing a new urban district in Lyngby, north of Copenhagen, Denmark as part of the municipality’s vision to make the region a centre of knowledge and creativity for Northern Europe. Microsoft’s new headquarters will be part of this development which in total will encompass 40,000 sq m with 16,350 sq m of buildings.

The Microsoft headquarters will bring together activities and employees from two locations in Denmark with a full workforce of 900 employees. Open to the public, the commercial building will offer an open café and technological facilities while functioning as an active working environment, expecting between 25,000 and 30,000 business visits each year.

Once completed, the district will combine elements of business and community outreach with student residences for research students from the Technical University of Denmark.

Mayor Søren P. Rasmussen explained: “The project reflects an interesting urban development strategy where knowledge-intensive businesses are connected to urban life and the local study community. In addition, the building will create a lot of new jobs and provide a welcoming, dynamic urban space where city centre and green areas meet.”
