Work begins on MVRDV, Aedas and Sincere Property-designed business district in Shanghai

A new business district in Shanghai designed by MVRDV, Sincere Property and Aedas has begun onsite near Hongqiao Airport train station and is due to complete in 2015. The 4.5ha site will be split into a large southern plot and a smaller northern plot and incorporate a cluster of office towers, retail outlets and cultural centres.

Nine office towers are destined for the southern plot and will spread over 110,000 sq m in total in 5-9 storey buildings. These structures will be interspersed with green public spaces and retail units, entered through two large glass cubes.

On the northern site users will find four towers connected at the top by open skybridges, giving the building the shape of a four-leaf clover. The ground floor of the building - approximately 1,800 sq m - will feature cultural programme spaces and a sunken plaza beneath will host some retail amenities. There are also plans for a 55,000 sq m parking garage and a jogging path across the sky garden on top of the ‘flower-shaped’ building.
