$13m lawsuit for green roof collapse in 2011

A court date has been set for a $13m lawsuit in St. Charles, Illinois, two years after a 500ft by 60ft portion of green roof collapsed at the headquarters of water gardening company Aquascape.

The firm had the large green roof, planted with prairie grasses and other foliage, installed in 2006 however on 13 February 2011 a section of it collapsed. No-one was injured.

Local paper The Daily Herald has now reported that Aquascape is suing a number of parties for $13m in damages ‘to cover reconstruction and damages to the Wittstock family of Wayne, which owns the company, and the cost to relocate employees for a year while the roof was repaired’.

The defendants are: Artisan Design Build LLC; Senektekts; Tricon Construction; Olsson Roofing; Tecza Environmental Group; Applied Ecological Services; Metallic Building Co.; Area Erectors; and Dewberry Architects.
