Sustainable Sites Initiative certification for Gustafson Guthrie Nichol

Gustafson Guthrie Nichol’s (GGN) Theater Commons and Donnelly Gardens at Seattle Center has been certified by the Sustainable Sites Initiative, a voluntary rating system which honours environmentally-friendly schemes across the US.

The project is one of 4 pilot projects by the organisation and 11 in total across the US which have qualified since January 2012. The Theater Commons and Donnelly Gardens scheme is a 74-acre urban park and cultural arts centre, created on the site of a 1.6-acre car park, service road and lawn.

"We are thrilled and honored that the Theater Commons project is one of the first nationally - and the first in Washington State - to be certified under the SITES Pilot Program. The project reflects strong values at Seattle Center around environmental stewardship and serves as a model for sustainable design and function in an urban landscape,” said Seattle Center Director Robert Nellams.
