A new 128-room and suite hotel owned by chain Occidental has opened in Petionville, Haiti this week. With top rooms costing $1,000 each night (including butler service) the hotel is at the luxury end of the scale and is situated in the hills east of Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince.
Ulrick Emmanuel Noel, Director of Investment for the Ministry of Tourism, told Reuters: “It shows that we’re open to international partnerships…and that we’re preparing to be a serious international destination. Private investors are starting to trust the Haitian state.”
The hotel was designed by Cabinet G Lescot Architecture and comprises a variety of rooms and suites, restaurants, retail outlets and a conference centre. This the first in a series of hotels due to open in Haiti over the coming months including Best Western Premier in January, NH Hoteles’ reimagined El Rancho in February.
